Devin Adams has been a music instructor in the St. Louis region for over ten years and a dedicated musician for over 20 years. His first instrument was the bass guitar, followed by electric guitar. He then studied piano to learn more about music theory and composition. In this process he developed a passion for classical piano and performance.
Devin attended Saint Louis Community College-Florissant Valley from 2011-2014, where he earned the degree of Associate of Arts in Music. During his time at Florissant Valley, he took applied piano lessons with Dr. Paul Higdon. He also assisted with accompanying the Florissant Valley Concert Choir.
After graduating from STLCC, Devin transferred to Webster University. He studied at Webster from 2014-2017 under Professor Daniel Schene where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. In addition to his studies of classical piano, Devin also pursued other musical interests, taking lessons in jazz piano, jazz guitar, as well as courses in music composition. While at Webster, Devin also took courses and private lessons in the Alexander Technique with Dawn Karlovsky.
After Webster University, Devin studied at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville from 2018-2022. First, he completed a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Piano Pedagogy under Dr. Huei Li Chin. During this time, he gave supervised piano lessons to elementary and intermediate students. He also assisted with teaching group piano class at the college level.
After completing the pedagogy program, Devin transitioned into the master’s degree program at SIUE where he earned the degree of Master of Music in Piano Performance under Dr. Angela Kim. During this time, he also served as a graduate assistant for the Music Theory Department where he helped with tutoring music theory students and grading theory assignments. Devin also pursued his passion for musical composition by taking private composition lessons with Dr. Kimberly Archer.
Since completing his studies at SIUE, Devin has worked full time as a music instructor teaching students of all ages, from elementary through early advanced levels. Although his teaching approach is classically based, he also believes in the importance of incorporating elements of jazz improvisation and composition. In addition to piano, Devin also offers lessons in guitar and bass guitar, where his approach is based on various styles of rock music. In addition to teaching, Devin has also served as a pianist at the Valley Park United Methodist Church since 2018. In his free time, Devin enjoys recording electronic music with his synthesizer collection.
